  Academic Year Housing

During the Fall and Spring, most new residents live in our co-op houses. A spot in a co-op house includes all your food, a supportive community of other students, and each room comes furnished with a bed, a desk, a dresser, a closet or wardrobe, and a chair for each person in the room.

Why live with us in our co-ops?

savings  Sharing resources, buying in bulk, and dividing labor among members keeps the cost of living low.  You simply can't get more for less in any living environment!  Learn more about what a co-op is.

the people  The USCA works on the cooperative principle of open membership.  This means that our co-ops attract people from a wide variety of backgrounds, leading to a diverse and accepting community atmosphere.

it's your kitchen  The co-op houses have open kitchens.  If you are a hungry member, you can go and eat any time, day or night.  After all, it's your food.  Since the manager that orders food is elected by and lives in your house, it's easy to help select what food your house buys.

near campus  All of our co-ops are within walking distance from the UC Berkeley campus, and accessible via public transportation to any San Francisco or other local bay area college, university and community college. As one UC Berkeley undergrad said, "I live across the street from my nine o'clock class!"  See the map of the USCA co-ops.

democratic community  Living in the USCA gives members the opportunity to make an impact at home.  As an owner-member, your vote counts.  Members determine both policies and how funds are spent.  From buying a new sauna to what flowers are planted in the garden -- you name it, you can change it!
