Art Walenta and Nancy Blattel What a party! Sue Walenta threw a bash for her husband, Art, one of the architects of the Co-op Alumni Association. He celebrated his 70th birthday with about 150 of his relatives and friends.

In lieu of personal gifts, Art directed contributions from well-wishers to the USCA’s Ted Johnston Scholarship Fund which he helped create, raising over $1,000. The gathering at the UC Faculty Club included good food and wine and good cheer. People from every segment of Art’s life (so far) were regaled by the music he loves, ranging from opera to Gilbert and Sullivan. Loving recollections by his grown children and affectionate and humorous tales told by his friends, painted the picture of a man who has touched many lives. Such a lovefest has not been seen in Berkeley since the 60s!
