The $60 that you send in with your application guarantees you a spot on the waiting list. If you withdraw your application without joining our co-op, we will retain a $10 application fee to cover the costs of processing your application. If you do sign a contract, your $60 application fee will be credited to your USCA membership fee.
If you are a Berkeley EOP Student, the application fee is reduced to $35. To be extended EOP status with us, you must include verification from the UC Berkeley EOP office located in room 140 in the Cesar Chavez Student Center on the UC Campus. The EOP office phone number is (510) 642-7224. If you are a confirmed EOP student and cannot pay the $35, please call our office for information on the Harriett Keyes Loan program.
PLEASE NOTE: Your deposit does not guarantee you a spot in the co-op; it does guarantee you a spot on the waiting list.

Be sure that you answer all of the questions on the application because we grant special priority to the following groups of people:
- Those who have previously been USCA members
- Students with disabilities - must be confirmed in writing by the Disabled Students Program at your college.
- Members of other student housing co-ops – we give special priority on our waiting list if you send us a letter from your other co-op indicating that you were a member in good standing. The letter must be on your co-op’s official stationary. The co-op must either belong to NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation), or be willing to extend the same waiting list priority to members of the USCA.
- International students coming to UC Berkeley as part of the Education Abroad Program.
- Participants in UC Berkeley’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) - must be confirmed in writing by the Student Learning Center on the UC campus. Confirmed EOP students pay a reduced application deposit of $35.
When you are assigned to the co-op, you will be sent a contract. You will have to return your signed contract along with an additional security deposit. Your original $60 application fee will not be credited toward your rent, but will be retained as a part of your security deposit. Your security deposit will be returned upon written request after your last semester of residence and after all outstanding bills are determined and paid.
