If you are so bold as to take one of the thin windy paths into the bushes and trees atop Channing way, you will come upon Lothlorien. Named after the Sylvan residence in JRR

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, its occupants are known as "Elves." Lothlorien is the only all-vegetarian house in the USCA and we compost and recycle more than any other house, as well. We believe in buying locally-grown, organic produce and then putting in the time and effort to create truly gourmet meals. We always cook vegan options and we make our own soy milk, beans, salsa, vegi-burgers, hummus, granola and bread weekly. Love, respect and concern for the earth and its inhabitants permeate all of Lothlorien’s practices and unite the elves in a common celebratory feeling of being alive and in a loving family.

Loth is part slumber party, part strange traditional festival, part commune. It has an underlying spirit of activism, respect, creativity and hedonism that erupts every day into lively discussions, jam-sessions, midnight feasts and spontaneous dance parties. Submerged in our beautiful gardens beneath the water-chestnut tree sits our own cleverly engineered homemade hot tub, a hop and a skip from our sauna. In the North house, you will find elves smiling in the sunlight atop our beautiful deck or cooing in the bay view sunset from the roof. We have an ingeniously designed tree house three stories up, complete with real windows and a shingled roof. Loth is an intricately decorated structure, a spirit of family and an overall surreal experience that is often too enticing to leave (even when you graduate and especially when you have to go study.)
