Job Description
The Hiring Commission (HiCom) Chairperson is responsible for planning all USCA hirings at the Central and House level, except for USCA Central Level management positions. The Chair conducts hirings with the Hiring Commission members, and ensures that hirings are conducted fairly and legally. The specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to, conducting HiCom trainings twice per semester (along with the Central Level Affirmative Action Coordinator & Member Resources Supervisor); familiarizing themselves with USCA job descriptions and personnel policies; reviewing applications and screening interview candidates; setting interview schedules; maintaining the HiCom Binder, and reporting to the USCA Board of Directors at least once per semester on the status of the Hiring Commission.
Requirements
This person should have excellent organizational and administrative skills, as much of this job requires coordination of other HiCom members and their schedules, telephoning applications, performing hirings on a timely basis and notifying applicants of the status of the hiring. The ability to work independently is necessary. Good communication skills – both oral and written – are a must. Good word-processing skills will be beneficial. Previous hiring experience is strongly preferred. The ability to work well with other people is necessary. Dependability is a key element in being successful in the job. The hours of this job tend to vary; you should expect to work a lot during the beginning and ending of a semester, with not much happening in between. You must have a flexible schedule, as there are evening hours required, especially at the beginning and end of each semester.
Hours/Pay
This job requires approximately 10 hours per week depending upon the semester’s hiring schedule, although late Spring, early Summer & early Fall are the busiest times. You will be compensated with a $1098.00 rent credit/semester. If you live in a house during the academic year, this will also fulfill your 5-hour workshift obligation; apartment residents receive additional pay (at $12.20/hour) equivalent to the 5-workshift hours (it doesn’t replace the workshift requirement). The job begins immediately, and a one-year commitment is preferred. You must be a USCA member to hold this job. This job is eligible for work-study compensation. If, for whatever reason, this job begins mid-semester the compensation will be pro-rated. You cannot be on the Board of Directors and hold a Central Level job.
