Job Description
The Produce Buyers are responsible for accepting deliveries at Central Kitchen and going to the Oakland Produce Market three mornings a week (M,W,F) to purchase produce ordered by co-op houses. You must buy produce between 5:00 AM & 8:00 AM. You then deliver full cases to several houses and the remainder to Central Kitchen. The Produce Buyers are also responsible for keeping records of what you purchased, how much, and the price (i.e. - paperwork).
Requirements
You have to be willing and able to drive a truck, and have a valid license and a good driving record. You have to be able to lift lots of boxes weighing 50 lbs and occasionally more. You need to be well-organized, responsible, reliable, and able to function well early in the morning. It's good to know about produce quality, prices, and seasonality. You need good communication skills, and you have to work well with other people in a team situation. You need to be able to count accurately and keep good records. At least one semester experience with CK operations is required. You must be a USCA member to hold this job.
Hours/Pay
This is a 10-hour/week job, fulfilling your 5-hour workshift obligation in the houses and providing a rent-credit stipend of $1131/semester. If you live in the apartments, you will receive an additional stipend (at $12.20/hour) for the workshift hours (it doesn’t replace your workshift obligation at the apartments). The job begins in Fall and lasts indefinitely, although you would not work during the summer (as CK operates only during Fall & Spring Semesters). If, for whatever reason, the job begins mid-semester the compensation will be prorated. This job is eligible for work-study compensation. You cannot hold a Central Level job & be on the Board of Directors.
