Below is a brief summary of the Board Approved Projects (BAPs) that will be happening during the summer of 2008. This list is to help you determine the House or Apartment you would like to live in this summer based on the information below. This list does not contain any projects that houses may decide to do with their House Approved Projects (HAPs) money. You will have to ask the House Manager of the house you are interested in if they are planning any HAPs for the summer. Click the 'more' link for additional information at the bottom of the page.
Different projects will have different conditions but you should expect there to be noise, dust, workers coming to the job site by 8:00 a.m., construction materials, drilling, hammering, areas closed off for varying periods of time, water and electricity turned off at times, debris associated with construction, and general construction noise. 1. The project may or may not be done depending on funding for 2008/2009 BAPs
2. The Castro kitchen remodel will happen this summer. There will be no kitchen use at Castro for the entire summer. This means you will be on your own for all meals. Summer residents of Castro will receive a rebate of 33% on their summer rent at the end of the summer, once the project is complete.
3. The remodeling of an apartment kitchen or bathroom may require the apartment to be vacant during construction. Not all of the apartments have been selected yet. Check with your house manager.
4. The Rochdale shingle and roofing project will be very noisy and all residents of Rochdale should expect the noise to begin at 8:00 a.m.
5. The rooms selected to be remodeled at Hoyt (2G, 2H, & 4A), Lothlorien (# 1, 202, & 208), Stebbins, and Sherman (“U & J”) must be vacant for the summer. Check with your house manager and/or maintenance manager to see which rooms have been selected to be remodeled. Residents currently in these rooms will have to move out for the summer.
6. The seismic projects at Kingman and Northside Apartments this summer will be disruptive (just ask the people at CO and CK). We do not know, at this time, exactly what areas will be accessible. Normally the basement and first floors of a building have limited access during the retrofit. We believe the retrofit will impact the residents of Kingman more than the residents of Northside. The work at Kingman will be more extensive than the work at Northside. The basement rooms at Kingman will probably need to be vacant during the retrofit work. There may be limited access to the kitchen and dining room at Kingman. The parking garages at Northside will probably need to be vacant during the retrofit work. The basement of 2540 may have limited access. We will pass along information as we receive it.
7. Northside Apartment # 2528 will have to be vacant for the summer.
